Upcoming Events:

Bag Brigade 11/18

4th Grade Slide Show and Breakfast
Chair:   Val Herndon
Description:  

Volunteers are needed to coordinate the year-end 4th Grade Breakfast and Clapping Out Ceremony.  These activities require several planning meetings through the year, and on-site at the event itself.  Cleanup crew is also needed after the event.

 
8th Grade Graduation Dance
Chair:   7th Grade Room Parents
Description:  

The 8th Grade dance follows the 8th grade graduation in the Cafetorium and provides a fun-filled way for our Markham graduates to finish off their year.  Many details must be attended to and we typically enlist the help of 7th grade parents to help out!

 
Box Tops for Education
Chair:   Carlye Laido & Tracey Wetmore
Description:  

By clipping Box Top coupons or participating in online promotions, you could fund a class trip, a set of books or any number of special school projects.  Sign up for this committee to help get the word out how easy it is to raise money for our schools via everyday purchases, help count coupons and determine prize winners. 

 
Community Outreach

Description:  

"Don't just teach kids how to count.  Teach 'em what counts most." - Karen Salmansohn.   The Community Outreach team coordinates service activities to benefit those in need, and in-school projects to teach our children why helping others is so important. Under the direction of co-chairs Lori Lopez, Alicia Aninowsky & Carmen Pfaneuf, volunteers (children and parents!) help with the collection and distribution of items to local charities.  Three events are planned for 2016-2017 school year, the first of which is Bag Brigade on Nov 18, 2016.

 
Father Daughter Dance

Description:  

Our third annual Father-Daughter Dance will take place on January 29, 2017 at Shore Casino.  Volunteers are needed to sell tickets, set up for the event and be on site during the dance.

 
FODL - Different Learners Day (PRS)

Description:  

The FODL committee is a group of PTO parents who are dedicated to enhancing the education of children who have different learning styles.

FODL hosts impactful activities during the school year, including: Celebrating Different Learners Day for 3rd graders on November 4, 2016.

 

 
FODL - Markham CARES Day

Description:  

As part of Friends of Different Learners...who is dedicated to enhancing the education and experiences of those children with different learning styles.  This program is one of the programs facilitated by FODL.  You will assist 6th graders as they learn from local volunteers and prepare care packages for those in need. 

 
Friends of Different Learners (FODL)

Description:  

The Little Silver FODL is a group of PTO parents working together to enhance the education of children who have different learning styles. The goal is to bring families in similar situations together to share information and to provide support for one another. Information is geared toward the health and well being of all our children. We also facilitate meetings and discussions for Gifted and Talented interests and the Parent Advisory Council. LSFODL is an active participant in Two River Friends of Different Learners, a regional group. We collaborate with the Two River districts to offer support group meetings and guest speakers. Hospitality

Description:  

Attend any school or PTO-related event and it’s pretty much a guarantee that you will come across our Hospitality Committee doling out food and beverage with caring, welcoming smiles!  Donation of baked goods, water bottles, and/or time to man tables are always needed and appreciated.

 
J Crew Fundraiser
Chair:   Michele Davis
Description:  

On a day in late September, (specific date TBD) a shopping event will be held at J. Crew in the Grove Shrewsbury.  A percentage of each qualifying purchase during the event will be given back to the PTO.

 
Kindergarten Coordinators
Chair:   Taryn Lenahan & Kate Mcallister
Description:  

We are looking for people to help us out next Spring. This committee helps kindergarteners and their parents meet and get to know other children and parents.  The committee will coordinate play dates in the Spring following Kindergarten registration and social gatherings for the parents. You will also manage the closed Facebook group for the kindergarten parents. Ideally we would like to have parents on this committee who have children in the school system now but who will have a kindergartener starting in the Fall 2016.

 
Little Silver Classic 5K
Chair:   Michelle Koster & Stacey Tietjen
Description:  

The annual Little Silver Classic 5K Run & Kids One Mile Races (USAT CERTIFIED) happens on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Red Bank Regional High School.  The course takes you thorough the streets and into downtown Little Silver.  For more information about this renowned fundraiser, visit www.littlesilver5k.com. Volunteers are needed on race day and in the month leading up to the race.  Volunteers will also be needed to assist with the set up of the after party, during the event and post party cleanup.

 
Little Silver Kitchen Tour
Chair:   Kelly Boyer & Eileen Savko
Description:  

The LSPTO will host a kitchen tour in 8 beautiful homes within Little Silver on Thursday, May 4th, 2017.  Volunteers will be needed for all aspects: gaining and managing sponsorships, marketing, and working at the event itself are among many opportunities to help with this exciting event that will raise valuable funds for PTO initiatives.

 
MPS Art Show

Description:  

The MPS art show is held just before school lets out for the Summer.  Under the direction of the Art Teacher and the Art Show chair, the year’s worth of art work completed by the children is displayed in the Cafetorium and throughout the hallways. We are always looking for volunteers to help display the Art Work!

 
MPS Book Fairs

Description:  

MPS hosts two book fairs in conjunction with Barnes & Noble, one held just before the holidays and featuring free gift wrapping services by the MPS teachers and performances by the MPS Choir and Band.  The Spring event takes place in-school in conjunction with the MPS Art Show.

 
MPS Carnival
Chair:   Phyllis Sauer
Description:  

The MPS Carnival is an awesome way to end the school year!  This outdoor event, which takes place on June 2, 2017 (Rain date 6/6) will feature inflatable bounce rentals, a DJ, and fair food favorites such as Italian ice and cotton candy.  BBQ to be organized by the Little Silver Police Department.

 
MPS Cultural Arts
Chair:   Billie McNally, Mary Beth Ostrowski, Carole Rogers & Coleen Forbes
Description:  

Each year, the PTO invests thousands of dollars in Cultural Arts programs to enhance the educational experiences of our children. Projects under consideration include: 

1.  Dr. Michael Fowlin's One-Person Show, Engaging Students about Living a Kinder Life

2.   Kit’s Interactive Theater, The AmericanRevolution (for 7th grade), The Royalty of the Renaissance (for 6th grade), The Mysteries of Ancient Egypt (for 5th grade)

3.  TheFranklin Institute, Traveling Science Shows, The Weather Show, for 6th grade

4.  Holocaust survivor speaker for 8th grade

5.  The Art of Inspiration to help students see the possibility in their potential and create new opportunities through fine arts.

6.  The Sonnet Man: through Hip Hop, Shakespeare will become exciting and fun, introducing young people to classical literature, raising literacy, improved communication, greater enthusiasm for learning, increase creativity, raise confidence, and will set a foundation for appreciation of the arts.

 

 
MPS Fifth/Sixth Grade Event

Description:  

Our 5th and 6th graders enjoy a special Game Show Night at Markham on April 21, 2017!  Volunteers will be needed for set up, to help run the activities, sell concessions and clean up.

 
MPS Talent Show - Markham's Got Talent
Chair:   Gabriella Bonocore
Description:  

The 5-8th Grade MPS students will showcase their talents at this event on January 20, 2017 (snow date scheduled for Jan 27, 2017).  The committee supplies direction, publicity, refreshments and volunteers with practice sessions and the main event.  

 
MPS Teacher Appreciation Luncheons
Chair:   Jen Barkey, Florence Wright & Renee Paolino
Description:  

This luncheon takes place twice per year as a way to show appreciation to teachers:  Fall and Spring.  The items needed will be determined by the committee, and a request sent out to parents for food contributions.  The committee will then set up and break down the luncheon.

 
MPS Teacher Cookie Exchange

Description:  

The MPS Teacher Cookie Exchange is a great kick off to the holidays.  Volunteers coordinate the donated baked items and set up the display of the cookies for the teachers. Volunteers are also needed to bake!!

 
Photography

Description:  

The photography committee supports the PR efforts and takes photographs at each event.  This committee will also track and clip news coverage.  You do not need to attend every event to volunteer your time!

 
PR/Communications

Description:  

The PTO writes and distributes a weekly Little Silver Schools Newsletter (via Constant Contact), posts news on www.littlesilverpto.org and our Facebook page, and communicates internally through school-wide e-blasts as needed.  This committee promotes the other committees’ events through the internal channels and through local media connections.  This committee also manages the bulletin boards at each school.

 
PRS Art Show

Description:  

All of PRS is transformed into an art gallery at the end of the school year, with a year’s worth of work from the entire school on display.  Volunteers are needed during the weeks prior to the event to help set up the school "gallery" display and also to man the basket auction the day of the fair.

 
PRS Book Fair

Description:  

The PTO supplies volunteers to set up, work, and break down the Fair.  The fair is held in the multi-purpose room at PRS through the school day and into the evenings on Book Fair week; as well as at the Book Lovers Ball the last evening of the Fair.

 
PRS Courtyard

Description:  

The Courtyard is an outdoor classroom, an interior playground, a magic garden and a quiet place of reflection smack dab in the middle of PRS.  Along with volunteer groups such as the Scouts, this committee helps with planting, maintenance, and clean-up, particularly in the Fall and Spring.

 
PRS Cultural Arts

Description:  

Each year the PTO is pleased to fund thousands of dollars into the Cultural Arts program at Point Road School.  This program provides our children with exposure to authors, musicians, plays, and a variety of other art forms that they would not typically experience in the classroom.  Past programs include Author Dan Gutman, Sarah Weeks, Chinese Acrobats, and ScienceTellers.
Volunteers are needed to help with  discovering exciting new programs for next school year, as well as overseeing this year's school shows.

 
PRS Extra-Curricular

PRS has several extra-curricular clubs that are chaired by caring parents and teachers. Students can sign up to participate in these clubs online through the school web sites. Parents can sign up to help out with these clubs below.

 
PRS Plant Sale

Description:  

Just before Mother’s Day, on Friday, May 12, 2017 the children of PRS can shop during school for plants that are displayed in the Courtyard and/or inside the hallways.  The sale continues into the after-school hours as well.  This committee oversees the purchase and setup of the plants, assists the children with their selections, and clean up afterwards.

Spiritwear

Description:  

Be on the lookout this fall for your chance to order Little Silver Schools tees and sweatshirts, shorts and sweatpants, hats, etc.! Volunteers are needed to assist with delivery of merchandise.

 
Spring Event - Lakewood Blueclaws Game

Description:  

After the phenomenal turnout over the last couple of years, the Little Silver PTO and Little Silver Rec invite you to take your family out to the ballgame at "Little Silver Baseball Night" at FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws.  The committee welcomes help with selling tickets.  Date TBD -- expected sometime in Spring.  A memorable night for the whole family!

 
Student Wellness & Safety Awareness

Description:  

These parents arrange assemblies given by state and local organizations, corporations and hospitals to promote  “safety first” through education, raising awareness and the reinforcement of safety rules for the students.  Programs also include wellness and healthy living assemblies when available. 

 
Sunshine Club

Description:  

This club provides sunshine to those in our community who need it most. This committee does card/gift/flower purchasing and even arranges meal deliveries as the need arises. If you are interested in preparing meals for those in need, this is the committee for you. If you know of anyone who could use a little light and warmth in their lives, please contact Christin and she will vet the requests through the PTO Executive Board. 

 
Winter Event-Ice Skating

Description:  

Sharpen those blades and lace up those skates! The Little Silver PTO will again be hosting an Ice Skating Night at the Armory in Red Bank on January 7, 2017. Great fun for the whole family!  Volunteers are needed to sell tickets and check skaters in at the door.
